Microsoft licensing for your hosting business
Do you provide your customers with hosted applications or IT services that use Microsoft software?
The Microsoft Services Provider License Agreement — SPLA enables service providers and independent software vendors to include eligible Microsoft products in their hosted offerings through monthly licensing.
You deliver a service to your customers and remain the licensee for the Microsoft software needed to provide it. Your customers therefore do not need to acquire and deploy the Microsoft software covered by this model themselves to use the service.
Practical use cases for hosting providers, MSPs and ISVs
Hosted business applications
Provide access to applications that address the needs of a particular business function or industry. Illustrative examples include ERP, accounting, hospitality management and retail applications. These examples do not establish the eligibility of any specific software or architecture.
Infrastructure services
Build infrastructure services that allow your customers to run their applications. The programme also provides for scenarios in which a provider supplies infrastructure to other service providers, which operate their own offerings under their own SPLA agreements.
Web and application hosting
Deliver websites and applications that interact with eligible Microsoft server products, incorporating the corresponding licences into your service.
SaaS applications and ISV offerings
Deliver your application as a hosted service when it runs on a server and interacts with a Microsoft product covered by the applicable use rights.
These use cases may involve shared or dedicated environments. Eligibility depends on the products, architecture and applicable Microsoft terms.
A monthly licensing model
SPLA uses non-perpetual monthly licences and also requires monthly licence tracking and reporting.
