Microsoft 365: who backs up your data?

SaaS vendors guarantee service availability, not data backup. How to turn that into a sales lever.

Many customers move to Microsoft 365 believing their data is “backed up” there. That is not quite the case.

Availability is not backup

SaaS vendors, Microsoft included, commit to the availability of their service. Protecting and backing up the data remains the customer’s responsibility. An accidental deletion, ransomware or an administrator’s mistake can be enough to lose critical data.

What you can offer

  1. A dedicated SaaS backup, such as Keepit, which stores data in an independent cloud.
  2. Integrated protection, such as Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud, which combines backup and cybersecurity for MSPs.
  3. A turnkey setup: our SaaS backup configuration pack handles the configuration.

One question to ask every customer

“If you lost your mailbox, your OneDrive files or your SharePoint sites tomorrow, how long would it take to restore everything?”
